Comments: My maiden name is Jemenia Vilella. My father's name was Francisco dos Santos Vilella.
He was born in Correio de Vidago, Arcosso, concelho de Chaves in Tras-os-Montes, around 1892. To
my knowledge he was one of 12 children but I have no knowledge of any of their names. He came to
America as a stow-away and stayed on the boat and proceeded to Brazil. Then came to America from
Brazil around 1915 +- a year or two. My mother's name was Erminda Freitas Romao and was born in
Correio de Vidago, Arcosso, Concelho de Chaves Tras-os-Montes, around June 7, 1896. She had a
sister named Brezelina, and a sister named Jemenia, a brother named Antonio. I know that there
were others but I don't know their names. Her mother's name was Clothilde and her father was Jose.
My mother was born in the same region as my father. It seems that the children didn't all use the
same last name. I have seen Santos, Freitas, Romao. Also, I am not sure if I have spelled their
names correctly. She came to America in 1915. Germaine

was born at Cimo da Vila da Castanheira - Concelho de Chaves on January
15 th, 1911. On June,1927, he migrated to São Paulo - Brazil and since

Maria was born 8-Dec-1907 in Mesão Frio, Parish/Freguesia de Mesão Frio, Concelho/Municipality de
Mesão Frio, Distrito/District de Vila Real, Province of Trás-os-Montes. Maria's parents were Joaquim
Correia Roque and Maria da Conceição. Maria's husband was José Gonçalves (from Lugar de Feitais,

Comments: I am trying to trace my ancestors from both sides of the family but
in particular my father's side. He passed away recently and I only recently found
out some details of my greatparents that I never knew before and would like to
know more about. I was born in Belleville, Ontario Canada and now live in Heart
Lake, Ontario. My father emigrated to Canada in April of 1957 and as far as I
know he was the first from both sides of my family. My father's name was Jose
Antonio Rua. He was from Torgeda in the freguesia de CHA, concelho de Montalegre.
His parents were Domingos Rua and Maria Fernandes both from the freguesia de Cha,
concelho de Montalegre. His paternal grandparents were Antonio Rua and Isabel
Barroso. His maternal grandparents were Jose Goncalves Torcato and Teotonia
Fernandes (which I thought was quite uncommon). I know that a few of his relatives
emigrated to France unfortunately I don't know any of their names other than
they may have the last name of Rua or Costa. My mother's name is Joaquina Pinto
Goncalves Rua. She was born in Parafita (sic) freguesia de Viade de Baixo,
concelho de Montalegre. Her parents were/are Francisco Goncalves and Maria Pinto
both born in the same place as my mother. Francisco was an only child and I don't
know too much about his parents other than I think they were only children. The
Pinto family is quite a large family and I believe spread out through Tras-os-Montes,
USA and Brazil. My grandmother has also mentioned that her mother came from a
wealthy family in Guimaraes. She was my grandmother's father's second wife. I
would be interested in finding out more about my ancestors.

Comments: I have done considerable research of Ribeira de Pena and Cabeçeira de Basto, including

born in Ribeira de Pena,father-José Pacheco de Andrade Goes,lugar Friume, July 27,1888 to 1972,
mother-Aurora da Costa,lugar Ruival, March 15, 1897 to 1953, both parishioners of Igreja de Sao
Salvador. They emigrated to NB Mass and had 8 children. I have reserched my ancestry via The
Church of Latter Day Saints and a site www.Sapo@pt, (Genealogia). I was fortunate to find a few
genealogists who have written extensively about my father's family. Records show a connection
(João de Cachim) a common ancestors of Fernão Magalhães, and the direct descendent of Duarte
Pacheco Pereira, both well known explorers. If I can be of any help, my connection are with the
names, Abreu, Andrade, Barros, Costa, Goes, Gonçalves, Novaes, Pacheco, Pereira, Pimental, Pipa

Comments: My mother's side comes from a small village outside Valpacos called
Estaraos and my dad's family comes from a small village outside of Vila Real
called Santa Marta da Montanha. I'm trying to find out if there are any "do
Forno" out there outside of Dad's family. Our name derived from our Great
Grandfather having the common name of Alves in a little village then because he
had an oven (or "forno") he became known as Alves do Forno. His sons
then began signing their names do Forno and hence our family name. I still have
not met any Portuguese do Fornos outside of our family.
