John Manuel Silva, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Email: john@sirwinelands.co.za
Date submitted: Sun, 27 May 2007
Surname: Silva family in Setúbal
Comments: My father was from Setubal and was born in 1911 on April the second. I am contactable on this email and also on 0027218768480. My father was a singer and also worked for a Lithography company in Lisboa. He came to South Africa via Mocambique in 1947. He died in 1981 and was not very communicative re his past. It was told to me on one of my trips to Portugal that he was related to a family by name Ramos Reynaud and that that gentleman was a banker living in a house on the main street called Casa Rosa, across the road was a Yellow house that became the Communist headquarters. He had an aunt Libia that became my governess and taught me what Portuguese I know. On one of my trips to Portugal I met quite by chance a cousin of his but the meeting was too emotional to make any sense of this and I lost touch. He was in choir that traveled around Portugal quite a lot by all accounts.
