Comments: My father Jose Rodrigues Pereira was born in 1903, in the Freguesia de Valadares, Concelho de Baiao, Region of Porto. His parents were Sofia da Gloria Pereira and Rodrigo Pinto Barbosa. They had two sons, Jose Rodrigues Pereira and Candido Pereira Pinto.Sofia immigrated to Rio de Janeiro, and later to Sao Paulo, Brazil, by 1915. Sofia da Gloria Pereira parents were Caetano Pereira and Teresa de Jesus Rodrigo Pinto Barbosa parents were Manoel Barbosa and Sibilina Rosa de Jesus Freguesia de Valadares is a tiny village in the mountains, in the Concelho de Baiao. There is a small cemitery in the hillside, and not too many are buried there. I found the tomb of my great-grandfather. (it seems to be the first, in that cemetery) As far as I know, most of the Pereira's and Barbosa's immigrated to somewhere in the world. I would appreciate any information related to the names indicated above, all from the Freguesia de Valadares. Thank you.

Comments: Os "meus" Azevedos vêem do Norte de Portugal, sendo o mais antigo, que sei, Jerónimo que nasceu cerca de 1630 em Bairros, Paço de Sousa, Ermegilde, Distrito do Porto. Casou com Maria de Adrião Miguel. Seu neto Manuel, casou com Maria Moreira em 1703. Os Moreiras eram da mesma terra desde pelo menos desde 1650. Esse ramo da família passou a chamar-se Moreira de Azevedo. Houve união com a família Ferreira da mesma terra de cerca de 1630. Outros ramos interessantes são os Rodrigues Lopo e os Fernandes ambos de Grijó, Distrito do Porto, que também aparecem na mesma era. Por outro lado encontrei os Casais de Moncorvo, Distrito do Porto e os Fonsecas de Oliveira de Azemeis, Aveiro, os Lourenços de Mertola, Beja, Alentejo, e muitos outros. Há ainda a possibilidade, em estudo, de ligar uma dessas famílias aos fundadores do mosteiro de Grijó, o que por ser bem documentado no "Livro das Campainhas" poderia levar essa porção da minha árvore até ao ano 912! Comments: My grandfather's name was Joaquim Queiros, he was married to Barbara Pereira I believe one or both of them were from Porto. Not sure of this. They married in Massachusetts and settled in Ludlow, MA. They had 10 children 1 of whom died as an infant. My father was Antonio Queiros he was the third or fourth one born. I'm not sure if the deceassed child was born just before my dad or just after. My dad's date of birth was April 14, 1928. My dad passed away in August of 1998. Comments: I am searching for my grandfather, Gurmelindo Goncalves Macedo, or records of him. He was born in the district of Porto, in the Province of Douro Litoral in the 1920's or early 1930's. José Soares de Azevedo, nasceu na cidade do Porto em 17/03/1800. Filho de honrado negociante Manoel Soares de Souza Martins e de D. Margarida Correia da Conceição Azevedo. Perdeu cedo os pais e foi criado pela tia D. Thereza Thomazia Correia de Azevedo. Aos 11 anos (1811) veio com um tio para o Brasil e voltou a Portugal com 16 anos (1816) e matriculou-se na Faculdade de Ciências Naturais de Coimbra. Em 1817, saiu de Portugal após a morte do General Gomes Freire de Andrade e demais conjurados, e foi estudar em Paris, onde se formou em 1821 com o grau de Bacharel em Letras. Escreveu em 1818 uma memória publicada anônima em Londres, no Investigador Portuguez, vol. n. 21. Em 1822 tornou ao Brasil onde foi educador, literato e poeta e viveu aqui até sua morte em maio de 1876. Casou-se no Brasil e teve 3 filhos : Alfredo, Henrique e Benjamim. Escreveu Memória Analítica sobre a "Confederação dos Tamoyos", impressa na Revista Brasileira em julho de 1857. Por esta memória foi presenteado pela S. M. Imperador D.Pedro II, com um exemplar do poema " A Confederação dos Tamoyos", ricamente encadernada, dizendo-lhe que ele tinha sido o salvador da reputação da Confederação dos Tamoyos. Este livro se encontra em poder de nossa família.

Comments: I am looking for info on my husbands' grandparents for my son, who came to America in the early 1900's. Thomazia Rose Ferreira, born 15 Feb. 1899, parents Joao Ferriera and Albina Rose Monteiro, social security application says she was born in Porto, Portugal. Her father worked for the conciliate in Portugal. She came to America with a female cousin, Amelia, to Glouster, Mass. She met Julio Claudio and married him in Rhode Island. He was in the merchant marines and I believe came through Canada. He was born 9 Jan. 1898 in Lisbon, his parents were Jose Claudio and Rosaria Carvalho. He had younger cousin who was a big soccer player. They settled in Brentwood, NY and had their children. Thomazia kept in touch with her family back in Portugal, but when she past away her address book disappeared. That is all the info I have and would love to find more. Julio, Thomazia and their 2 children all died in the 70's.

Comments: We have a mystery in our family...or at leat a dead end. My Great-Grandfather, Antonio Pereira was born in Porto, Portugal around 1880's? we think. We don't have a date of birth for him. He claimed that his family owned one of the fishing fleets in Porto. He attended his sister's wedding where the celebrations went on for a week... His father told him he would have to become either a priest or a soldier. Antonio wanted neither and ran away to sea at the age of 12? and became a cabin boy. He eventually ended up in Sydney, Australia where he married. Around 1900 he was called to come home to Portugal to claim his inheritance. He was the only son and his father had died in Porto. It was wartime and he managed toget a passage for the whole family along with hundreds of Australian soldiers who were going to South Africa.. (Not sure of this, it could have been 1915 and world war 1) He was a very jealous man and the soldiers were "attentive" to his wife. He was enraged and left the ship in Perth and never returned to Portugal ever returned to Sydney (that's how the story goes). We don't know who Antonio Pereira's family were. No names or anything. Comments: Looking for mansel martins born 1870. Had a sister Amalia. Parents Mansel Martins and Frances malta live in Oporto or Porto. Dad was carpenter. He was name Manoel Francicso Mansel Martins, and he married Sarah May Sellens. In 1891 was on the ship Coorong barque 344, with Captain Hayward, sailed from Maurities. Mansel Martins was a quarter master on the Marloo about 1900. Also a hulk keeper on the Herschell.

Comments: Need help finding information regarding Domingos Ferreira de Paiva LACERDA - this name also anglicised to Dominick LACERDA - born in Porto, Portugal on 17th December 1829. Arriving in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1850 (ship unknown) he married Jane Stevens (or Stephens) in Sydney New South Wales, in 1856. Dominick died at Newtown, New South Wales, in 1902. His children were: Dominic 1858-1920, Lydia Anne 1860-, Joseph 1861-1948, Eugenia Blanche 1867-1942, Augustus 1871-1935, Edith Maud 1877-1899. I am looking for info on Dominick's parents and ancestors, and any information would be gratefully received. Thank you.

Saiu de Portugal com a idade de 12 anos, em 1872, e foi para o Brasil, onde mais tarde casou e viveu toda a sua vida e esta enterrado na cidade de Ponta Grossa, Estado do Parana, Brasil. Comments: Os "meus" Azevedos vêem do Norte de Portugal, sendo o mais antigo, que sei, Jerónimo que nasceu cerca de 1630 em Bairros, Paço de Sousa, Ermegilde, Distrito do Porto. Casou com Maria de Adrião Miguel. Seu neto Manuel, casou com Maria Moreira em 1703. Os Moreiras eram da mesma terra desde pelo menos desde 1650. Esse ramo da família passou a chamar-se Moreira de Azevedo. Houve união com a família Ferreira da mesma terra de cerca de 1630. Outros ramos interessantes são os Rodrigues Lopo e os Fernandes ambos de Grijó, Distrito do Porto, que também aparecem na mesma era. Por outro lado encontrei os Casais de Moncorvo, Distrito do Porto e os Fonsecas de Oliveira de Azemeis, Aveiro, os Lourenços de Mertola, Beja, Alentejo, e muitos outros. Há ainda a possibilidade, em estudo, de ligar uma dessas famílias aos fundadores do mosteiro de Grijó, o que por ser bem documentado no "Livro das Campainhas" poderia levar essa porção da minha árvore até ao ano 912! Presentemente resido em Ontario, Canada. Uma minha página no web foi escrita para explicar Portugal aos meus quatro netos Canadianos.
