Comments: Grandfather Jacintho Gonsalves( Jacinto Gonçalves in Madeira) born in Campanário married to Mary Perreira (Maria Texeira on registration to come to Hawaii). Might have been known as Maria Perreira on other Madeira documents. The came to Hawaii on the Willisden in Dec. 1911. They had a son Joseph (Jose Sanno on ship records) b 1910. Maria would have been born around 1888 and Jacinto(Campanario) around 1880. There was also two Manuel Goncalves on the ship with them and believe at least one was a brother married to a Euclia (Emilia)also born in Campanario. On Jacintho's obituary it named two living brothers, Frank and Anastacio Goncalves and a sister Anna Goncalves of Madeira. Maria's mother was Augusta Perreira(came around 1940s to New Bedford, Mass.) We think she lived with one of Maria's sisters named Rose or ? Trandade in Acushnet, Mass. She had at least two brothers we think there names were Antone and Manuel Perreira(not sure if they remained in Madeira). This is all I have. If you make a connection with any of these names, please email me.
Obrigada! Cathy

Comments: Hello I am looking for relatives in Funchal or Maderia. My mother past away in April 1972 in Canada, she had family in Maderia and Funchal. Her name is Augusta Pereira, she had a sister named Maria, brother named John and Manual and I think 2 other siblings. Born to Maria Freietas and Manual Periera. My mother came to Canada in 1955 with 2 of my sisters. My mothers birth date is April 11 1929. She was born in Camponario (not sure where that is), but lived in Funchal. Her parents where farmers, renting land from the government, that also had a church on the property and a house inwhich they lived. Grandmothre died 1973.

Comments: I've been tracking my genealogy through a combination of notes from my grandmother, the book "The Portuguese in Hawaii," by John Henry Felix, "My Mother's Family History," by Pete Mann, and ancestry.com. I can't really get past my Great Great grandparents with any certainty, because that is the generation that immigrated to Hawaii. Georgina married Manuel Placido and later Manuel Mello His cousin) after Placido's death.

I believe that Estavo de Cravalho and Maria dos Santos left Portugal from the Azores on board the SS Abergeldie and arrived in Hawaii on 4 May 1883. They were traveling with their daughters Georgiana and Consesan, their son Antonio. I am looking for more information about this family and their predecessors.

I know that Nativida dos Reis left Portugal from Madeira on board the Thomas Bell and arrived in Hawaii on 13 Apr 1988. Her memoir states that she traveled with her parents: Joao dos Reis and Maria do Rosario

I know that Manuel Amaral and his wife Jacintha (?) left Portugal from the Azores on board the SS Abergeldie and arrived in Hawaii on 4 May 1883. They were traveling with their children Maria and Jose. There is debate over wether their daughter Mariana was born in the Azores in 1882 or on board the ship in 1883.

I know almost nothing about the Rodrigues side of the family. It is possible that somewhere in his lineage, my grandfather Frank Carrera Rodrigues' family was actually Carerra Rodrigues. He was born in Hawaii, but his parents Joseph Rodrigues/Carerra and Emma (?) were born in Portugal and immigrated to Hawaii on an unknown ship.

Any information would be wonderful...

Comments:
Antonio / Reis:  Manuel Antonio married Maria Dos Reis-Santos and had three children: Manuel Antonio (b. 1879), Rita Dos Reis (b. 1885) and Maria Dos Reis (b 1883).  The parents both died in 1889.  The children were temporarily cared for by their maternal uncle Joao De Santos and then the girls were raised in a convent.  Brother Manuel Antonio (b. 1879) immigrated to Hawaii in 1910, Sister Rita dos Reis came to massachusetts in 1910.  And Sister Maria dos Reis came to massachusetts to join her Husband (Jacob Vieira) with their four children and Rita's daughter by the same name (Maria Dos Reis)
Rodrigues / Vieira:  Antonio Vieira and Rosa Rodrigues were married before 1880 and eventually moved to British Guyana and started a family.  They had at least 5 children between these two locations.  Jacob Vieira was born in Georgetown Guyana in 1880 and eventually returned to madeira and married Maria Dos Reis, (one of the three siblings) mentioned above.  Other Vieira siblings include:  Rui Rodrigues-Vieira, Noe Vieira, Antonia Xavier Rodrigues-Vieira, Guilhermina Rodrigues-Vieira.  Their mother Rosa Rodrigues Vieira also returned to madeira where she eventually died in 1932.
*** I am looking for assistance in finding more information about these familes.
