Email: jsferreira@rocketmail.com
Date submitted: before 1998
Surnames: Vasconcellos de Souza, Correia
Comments: My father's maternal grandfather, Manuel Vasconcellos de Souza (or
de Sousa)came to Trinidad at the beginning of the 20th century. His parents,
Luis and Paulina Rosa de Sousa, probably died before he came. His sister
Christina de Souza followed him to Trinidad, and they left behind their
siblings, including another sister who married a Correia, and whose children
were Georgina, Piedade and João. As far as we know, there are still members of
the Vasconcellos de Souza and Correia families in Machico. My father's mother,
Maria Eustacia de Souza Ferreira (known as "Vio") used to write (in
English) to her first cousin Georgina who used to work in an embroidery shop
that was housed above or below or adjacent to a bank (the shop is now closed),
but they lost contact. We would love to know more. In Trinidad, Manuel married
Mary Eugenia Sabino, whose mother Mary Vieira was from Madeira, and whose
father Francis Sabino was from Guyana. Nothing known is about my father's
paternal grandfather, João Ferreira, or about the Portuguese ancestors of my
father's paternal grandmother, Emiliana Teresa de Freitas.

Email: viula2@aol.com
Date submitted: before 1998
Surnames: Viula
Comments: I believe some ancestor in Madeira (way back when) changed it from
Viola. I have relatives still living in Funchal, Madeira with the Viula
surname. My father's name is José Vieira Viula and he's the one born in
Machico in 1921. His youngest brother Sidonio Viula is still well known in
Funchal. Another brother spent a lot of time living in the Azores (can't
remember the island just now) and was quite a famous accordion folk player
there. His name was Manuel Viula. The oldest brother, João, moved to Brazil
long ago, and died there 40 years later, leaving offspring there.

Comments: I grew up without my father for 22 years and now am curious about my biological father.
I was told serveral different stories from various family members but I want to know the truth.
As a mother myself, I feel very lost, not knowing my roots and most of all, who is/was my father.
My father's name is Avelino Fernandes de Sousa. His father's name is Antonio de Sousa, and his
mother's name is Ludovina Fernandes. I do believe my father was married at the time i was born,
1985. I was told I have two older brothers, no names but I'm sure they are De Sousa. I would also
be looking for my godmother, Teresa Maria Figeura Abreu. My godfather, Albino Gil Catanho da Silva,
passed away in 2002(?) but I would also be looking for any relatives/friends if possible. If anyone
has any information or knows where I can get more help with finding him, please feel free to email
me. Thank you!
