Comments: I have new and updated information. Over the weekend I received an English translation of my Grandfathers Baptism Certificate. It is a hand written paper but legible. From it I can confirm the following:
1. My grandfather, Manuel Nunes (born Aug 12, 1899, Funchal) was baptised on September 3, 1899 in "This parish church of Santa Maria Maior, district and diocese of Funchal"
2. His father, also Manuel Nunes, was born July 9, 1873, in the parish of Ponta da Sol, district of the same name of this diocese.
3. His mother, Carlota Barbeito, was born March 20, 1873 in Arco Da Calheta, district of Calheta, of this same diocese.
4. His parents Manuel and Carlota, were married in the Cathedral of this town; (Funchal?)
5. The family lived in the Quinta do Acciaioli.
6. Paternal grandparents were listed as Antonio Nunes and Ana de Jesus. Sources obtained before, claimed her name was Maria de Jesus. Since this is the first source I have obtained from Madeira, I will take Ana de Jesus as the excepted name until sources prove otherwise.
7. Maternal grandparents were listed as José Barbeito and Jesuina da Incarnacao.

They had three children that lived, one of which, Manuel Nunes (born Aug 12, 1899, same name) was my grandfather. 6. Entire family came to U.S., older family members remember being told the date of April 1, 1906.

1.Manuel Augusto Gomes and Maria Amelia Mauricio were the parents of Joao Augusto Gomes (aka Visinha) (24/11/1903 - 27/08/1961); Eugenia Goncalves (born Gomes on 24/11/1903 - could have been the twin of Joao but I’m not sure) whose last address I have is 370 Rosecrans, La Playa, San Diego, CA. and Humberto Gomes (aka Gibinha) - deceased (emigrated to Australia in the 1950s and had 3 or more children, viz. I know of Judite, Eugenia and Humberto (known as Butch).
2. Manuel Inacio da Silva and Julia Gomes da Conceicao (farmhands) (were the parents of Maria da Natividade Gomes (aka Maricas) (born da Silva - 8/09/1903 - 17/05/1990); Basilio (born 14/6); Merces Garces (born da Silva); Dolores Pequeno (born da Silva) (emigrated to San Diego) whose last known address is 1525 Willow Drive, San Diego, CA.92106 (up until December 1997 was still in touch but have heard nothing from her since then) and Maria Jose Gouveia (born da Silva - 28/12/1913 - 25/05/1998) who emigrated to South Africa. There probably were more children but I’m not sure.
3.Silvestre (aka Felisberto) Inacio da Silva and Maria Julia de Jesus were the paternal grandparents of the children of No 2 above.
4.Joao Gomes (stonemason) and Maria de Jesus were the maternal grandparents of the children of No 2 above.
5.It seems to me that they were all related in some way as along the line the da Silvas and Gomes seemed to have crossed over as my father was Joao Augusto Gomes and my mother was Maria da Natividade da Silva.
Does anyone have any further information for me about the above. I would actually like to trace back to see where the family came from on mainland Portugal.

Madeira: Calheta, Prazeres Comments: My grandfather was Manuel d'Agrella Teixeira. He was born in Prazeres in 1885 and came to Hawaii on the Kumeric June 27, 1907. On April 11, 1913 he married Belmira Silva. They had eight suriving children, my mother Helena Magdelena Teixeira was one of them. The family did not use De Agrella in Hawaii. He wrote to a sister in Prazeres in the 1930s and she signs herself Matilde de Agrella Pingo or Pinero. The writing is difficult to read. He also wrote to a brother who was living in Johannesburg, South Africa at the time, who signed his name Antonio de Agrella Teixeira. I still have the letters and have reason to believe that they may be children of his father by a second wife. He told my mother that his father remarried after his mother died.
