Comments: My ancestor, Manuel Ribeiro Bessa, was born in Porto and came
from Lisbon to Olinda (Brazil) in the beginning of first decade of 1700s.
He was a military (sargento-mor), got married to a rich widow and went to
Ceara capitany (now Ceara state) where he became a landowner. He died in
1769 and left numerous descendants. Any help to trace back his ancestry
in Portugal is highly appreciated. Bessa´s coat of arms had been awarded
to Pedro de Bessa by King Dom Fernando in 1381. Thank you.
