on the KUMERIC June 27, 1907. On April 11, 1913 he married Belmira Silva.
They had eight suriving children, my mother Helena Magdelena Teixeira was one
of them. The family did not use De Agrella in Hawaii. Manuel wrote to a
brother in Johanesberg, South Africa in the 1930's who signed himself Antonio
de Agrella Teixeira, and a sister in Prazeres who wigned her letters Matilde
de Agrella Pingo or Pinhere. I still have the letters and have reason to
believe that they may be children of his father by a second wife. He told my
mother that his father remarried after his mother died.

Comments: My ancestors came to Hawaii in the late 1800's to work the Sugar
Plantations. Most went to the Big Island of Hawaii where they settled in
Honomu, Onomea, Papaikou, and Pepeekeo. I have also been told there may have
been some who went to the island of Kauai. There is an unconfirmed
possibility that (as stated on the shiplists) Joao de Pimentel da Motta of
Villa Franca, Sao Miguel, is my ancestor. In "Immigration from Azores to
Hawaii 1879-1883," he is listed as Joao de Pimentel da Mota. Father: Joao de
Pimentel. Mother: Maria dos Anjos. Has anyone been able to claim these people
as their ancestors? Any information and assistance would be appreciated.

and the Church of Sao Jorge on Sao Miguel. My Grandfather-Manuel Bernard
Teixeira and his two sisters:Mary & Evangeline. And his two brothers:

immigrated to Oakland, California in 1906. My Grandfather-Manuel Bernard
Teixeira married Emily Rezente (born 25 Mar 1900 Honolulu,Hi) in San Jose,

17 Dec 1866) in Ponta Delgada in the Church of Sao Jose, on Sao Miguel. He
married her Mother... Maria Da Gloria Carreira/Correia (born 10 Sep 1878 Sao
Jose, Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel) on 20 Aug 1893 in the Church of Saint Raphael
in Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii. They had 6 children in Hawaii... then they moved to
Oakland, Califorina around 1908... and had three more children in Oakland,
California. I have traced Jose Joaquim Resendes/Rezente and Maria Da Gloria

Comments: I am researching for the names da Simas, Simoes, Paes and Medeiros.
They are the great grandparents of my children. They came from Sao Miguel in
the late 1890s to New Bedford, MA. This is what I know about about Rosa da
Simas: She was born in the village of Achada in 1876 and died in New Bedford,
MA in 1966. She is probably buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery and I am
currently making those inquiries. She married Joseph Ferreira Simoes (?in Sao
Miguel or MA?). Their first child was born 20 May 1900 in New Bedford, MA.
Their children were Joseph Ferreira, Jr., Julio, Mary, John, Angelina and
Manuel. Her husband, Jos F. Simoes was also born in Achada in 1871 and he
died in New Bedford, MA in 1954. I married the only child of Joseph Ferreira
Simoes (Simmons), Jr, Alvin Joseph Simmons. I too remember hearing the island
of Pico mentioned by the family. I have a v. poor picture of Rosa da Simas.
Joseph F. Simoes (Simmons), Jr, married Elvira Page who parents were were
Antone Paes (Page) and Antonia demao Medeiros. Antonia Medeiros and Antonio
Paes were born in Ponte del Gardo (sp), villa de Franco. I believe that I
have found an Ellis Island entry for her with her maiden name for 1899 at age
30. I have a v. poor picture of this couple also.
These immigrants and their children are all deceased now so I must look to
records for family lineage. I have 5 married children and 9 grandchildren who
need and want to find their Portuguese heritage.
