emigrated to John Day, Oregon around the turn of the century, married Joe
Julio Andrade (from Santa Maria) in about 1905, had 3 children, and died in
San Jose, CA in 1947. Her mother's maiden name was Cunha. Her brother Manuel
emigrated with her (he married but had no children, and died in 1948). His
middle name was Silveira, so that name comes into the family somewhere. They
had several other siblings who stayed in the Azores (the youngest brother's
widow was still alive in 1980).

Surname: Francisco (Francis)
Comments: I am researching my father's family. I am looking for any
information on my grandfather Jose Miguel Francisco (Joseph Michael Francis),
son of Antonio Miguel and Maria Constancia Francisco. Jose was married to
Rosa Tachiera near Vallejo, CA and I believe had at least a son Joseph, and a
daughter Angelina. I believe Angelina married Jack Barenchi and had either
children or grandchildren named Arnetta, Norma and Jackie.
I have a letter of reference concerning Jose when he left the Azores about
1903, with a 7-year-old son of the same name. At some time I believe he was
divorced and moved and lived in Tiverton and Fall River MA. There he married
Ella V. Freitas, daughter of Jesse Freitas and Rose Silvia, and had 4
children - my father Norman James, Charles Linwood, Helen Margaret and
another son that died either at birth or shortly thereafter. I also have a
copy of a letter my grandmother received from a friend Anica Mangerone in
Rosais.

named Joao Borges in 1868. They had another son named Jose around 1871 and a
daughter name Augusta around 1878. My gggrandfather came to the US in 1889
and eventually moved to Yerington, Nevada in 1895. His brother and sister
also moved to Yerington. My gggrandfather married Marie Fagundus (who was
from the island of Flores) in 1896. Augusta, married Frank Lucas (who
happened to be 30 years her senior) in 1899. If anyone has any information
that could help me, I look forward to hearing from you.
My gggGrandmother, Anna Delphina Pereira, bore at least 9 children out of
wedlock. The birth and baptismal records do not indicate the name of the
father. At least two of Anna's children emigrated to the U.S. and settled in
Yerington, Nevada. Their names were John Borge (my ggGrandfather) (born in
1868 and died in 1959) and Augusta Borge (born in 1879, married Frank Lucas
in 1900). There was another brother named Joseph Borge who ran a creamery
with John Borge but I have been unable to find his birth records. John Borge
married Marie Fagundes (from Flores) in 1896. Joseph Borge married Dora
Williams in 1921. I am trying to find the father of Anna's Delphina Pereira's
children. Anna Delphina Pereira was the daughter of José Inácio Pereira and
Maria Tomásia. She was born in on August 3, 1834 in Santo Amaro, Sao Jorge,
Acores. I look forward to hearing from anyone who can give me more information.

Comments: Have traced my family tree back to Sao Jorges, to the mid 1800's,
but I loose all trace of ancestors from there. Ancestors moved to Bay Area
(Benicia) in California, but I only know generations that came from Azores.
No information before migration. Specifically, my trail ends at: Mauel de
Bettencourt de Amarante, b. St. Antonio, Sao Jorge married to Patronilla
Constante de Bettencourt, b. Topo, Sao Jorge who are parents of Mathias
Constantion dos Santos b. August 2, 1828 Sao Jorge. Mathias married Isabel
Jacintha d'Azavedo b. Nov. 8, 1830. Jacintha's parents were: Manuel Jose
d'Azevedo, b. St. Antonio Sao Jorge and Isabel Jacintha d'Azavedo (?) b. St.
Antonino, Sao Jorge. Other dead ends are: Jacintha Soares, b 1849, Sao Jorge,
married a Mr. Neto, Joseph Ramalho, b. 1849 in Ribera Seca, Sao Jorge,
married to Isabelle Amador , b. 1851, and lastly, Maria San Padro Enos, b.
12/29/1887 in Sao Jorge, who married Manuel Silvera Ramalho b. June 9, 1880

Comments: In doing Geneology for my family, I have only verbal history
to start with. The verbal is: Manuel Teixeira, born about 1852 in Villa de
Velas, left for Lisbon to become a priest. He left his studies, took a
whaling ship to Lahina, Maui, then on to Alaska. The verbal says his ship
was one of three caught in ice (according to our history books, this was
about the end of using whale oil for lighting). The crews had to return to
Lahina, Maui on one ship, very ill. Mary Luis Soares or Soares Luis, was born
about 1854, left Sao Jorge with a maid servant via the Panama Canal to San
Francisco (this was about 1872) to meet and marry Manuel. They settled in
the Benicia/Vallejo, Calif., had 10 children. Our line was their fourth
child, Emerald Edward Teicheira (by then the Teixeira spelling had been
changed to Teicheira). Also, as recorded in the 1900 census, they spelled
their name, Teschiere. If you have help as to how I can access more of this
this Velas family information, I will go to work. Thank you, Taye McClure
