Comments: Antonio Silveira de Bettencourt was my 4th great grandfather born
approx 1750. He married in Feteira, Faial, but was born in Guadalupe, as were
his parents, Domingos Bettencourt and Dona Maria Garcia.

Comments: Bom Dia! First of all, thank you for this opportunity-I didn't know
what I would find when I surfed for Gracioça, and this was a very pleasant
surprise. I am of English/Irish descent-but married into a wonderful
portuguese family living in Massachusetts and Santa Clara,CA. My family is
from the village of Guadalupe, surnames of relatives are Caldiera, Espinola
and Bettencourt. From what I understand my great uncle John (espinola?) was
quite famous for his cattle-there is a photograph of him and his oxen in the
Graciosa museum in the villa. My mother in law's cousin is Tina Bettencourt,
wife of Franklin, both of whom still live in Guadalupe. I know a few bits of
family history, one of my favorites is that my great great grandfather was a
russian who jumped ship. As my grandmother had red hair in her younger days I
think this might be true.

Comments: Manuel (Emmanuel) Francisco de Miranda (born Nov. 1, baptized Dec.
1, 1851) was my ggfather. He married Custodia Thomazia Gil de Silviera, b Dec
26, 1864 on Graciosa. I have not yet found her in any Graciosa records.
Manuel and Custodia immigrated in abt. 1880 to the US, and soon to New
Bedford, MA.

father(Manuel Leodolfo Gil da Silva) and his family are from Guadalupe(Almas).
My grandparents' names are Florencia and Joao Gil da Silva. I have 3 aunts in
Graciosa, one aunt in Lowell, 2 aunts in Toronto and one uncle in Toronto too.

Comments: Looking for any information on Luis Souza Bettencourt, born
Graciosa, 8/3/1864, Married Candida Augusta Silva born 1861, Moved to
Somerville MA USA before 1888, had 4 Children- George Sousa Bettencourt born
Boston 10/21/1888, Tony Sousa born 1890, Jack Sousa born 1892, Varista Sousa
born 1895. Luis and Candida returned to Graciosa abt. 1912 and returned to
Somerville in 1913 leaving Manuel Bettencourt in Guadelupe ( brother of Luis).
Candida died 1931 in US , Luis returned to Graciosa and married Olivia Correia
May 2, 1946. Luis died May 11,1953.

Comments: I am just beginning my search for my relatives and info on Ancestory
in the Azores, my grandfathers name is Serino m Affonso, acording to records
he was born in Ferguezia Da Luz Graciosa in 1870 and maybe went to a parish
Nossa Senhora Da Luz, to be babtised. And his parants are buried there some
place, I would like to find out what their names are, so i can finish the
familytree. In 1889 he was 19 I know that there is some Affonso's there to
get in touch with if i can. If by some chance they see this to get in touch
with me. HIS brothers names JOE-TONY-MANUEL AFFONSO.

Comments: These are my grandparents Filipe and Senhorinha they married in
1909 in Graciosa and came to the states shortly after residing in Providence
R.I. for a short and then Peabody Mass. My grandfather's father was Everett
and his mother was Miquilina Candida. My grandmother's father was Joao De
Souza Dos Santos and Maria Candida.
Grandmother Senhorinha dos Santos born July 25, 1887 baptized in Nossa
Senhora da Luz, County of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Diocese of Angra, by the
reverend Bartholomeu Alvaro Bettencourt on August 27, 1887. My grandfather
same church on March 27, 1887 by Father Manuel de Dias Cardoso. They had four
children John just turned 90 Manuel [my father] died 3-6-95, Mary died
11-14-98, Alice died 9-67.My grandmother had two brother SimonDe Sousa, John
Dos Santos, one sister Mary Dos Santos. They all lived in R.I. Need more info.

Comments: My grandfather was from Graciosa (Santa Cruz). His name was Leonard Mendonca
changed to Mendonsa when he came to the States through Ellis Island. Born aprox. 1906,
he married my grandmother Mildred (Millie) Silva, born aprox 1913. She had a brother
Joseph Silva in Santa Cruz, CA. We are looking for relatives for a family tree here or
in Graciosa. I know of but cannot find a Linda, from Santa Cruz, CA, cousin of Michael
Mendonsa, born 1955. There was also Cunha's and other Silva's in Santa Cruz, CA We are
