San Miguel, Azores: Gonsalves da Silva, De Lima, De Jesus, Ferreira Pedro, Candida probably in Ribeira Grande and Vila Franca Comments: Manuel De Agrella Teixiera was from Prazeres an arrived in Honolulu on the KUMERIC June 27, 1907. On April 11, 1913 he married Belmira Silva. They had eight suriving children, my mother Helena Magdelena Teixeira was one of them. The family did not use De Agrella in Hawaii. Manuel wrote to a brother in Johanesberg, South Africa in the 1930's who signed himself Antonio de Agrella Teixeira, and a sister in Prazeres who wigned her letters Matilde de Agrella Pingo or Pinhere. I still have the letters and have reason to believe that they may be children of his father by a second wife. He told my mother that his father remarried after his mother died.

Email: gerakarisp@msn.com
Date submitted: Wed, 22 Feb 2006
Surnames: Moniz, Tavares
Comments: I am looking for any information about my Portuguese descendants. My mother, now deceased was born in Oakland, CA to Maria Adelina and Gervais Telles. My grandfather was also known as Jerry Telles or Tels and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He died at a young age. I am looking for information on his family. All I know is that his family is from San Miguel but that his family first emigrated to Brazil. He came to California from Brazil. My grandmother came here with her mother and at least one sibling. I do not know what year they came here or on what ship. I have been told by a cousin that they came in through Rhode Island and I know it had to be prior to 1908 (probably several years) because my mother was born that year in Oakland CA. Maria Adelina's maiden name was Moniz, or Moneze or Monez. Her little brother was Henry Moniz. My grandmother's maiden name was Tavares. They came from a town called Raab de Peixe (Spelling may be incorrect, but it supposedly means tail of the fish). Other Moniz, or Monez relatives arriving from San Miguel, were Cornel and Giles (pronounced Jill), and sister, Carolina. Thanks to anyone out there who may have information regarding any of the above.
