Comments: I have two sons: Padraig Antero (born Fort Erie Ontario Canada and Matti João (born Orangeville, Ontario Canada). Wife is Finn born in southwest Finland, Alastaro to be precise. I am in 50 and boyos are just about or dead on 20. What a lovely age to be. I don't I just envy them. I am off with eldest, Padraig, to visit islands in July and I had it in mind to go through civil and church registries in three hamlets to get a 'feeling' for good or bad blood in family tree. That is it. If you start a dialogue with me you can be sure that I will bear up my end. Cheers and best regards Aku my (Finnish name - Finnish does not have voiced consonents hence the k, and Aguinaldo is to loooonnnng for the dialect in this region - all words are reduced in size by 30%, at least. Hence Aku)

Comments: I am researching for the names da Simas, Simoes, Paes and Medeiros. They are the great grandparents of my children. They came from Sao Miguel in the late 1890s to New Bedford, MA. This is what I know about about Rosa da Simas: She was born in the village of Achada in 1876 and died in New Bedford, MA in 1966. She is probably buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery and I am currently making those inquiries. She married Joseph Ferreira Simoes (?in Sao Miguel or MA?). Their first child was born 20 May 1900 in New Bedford, MA. Their children were Joseph Ferreira, Jr., Julio, Mary, John, Angelina and Manuel. Her husband, Jos F. Simoes was also born in Achada in 1871 and he died in New Bedford, MA in 1954. I married the only child of Joseph Ferreira Simoes (Simmons), Jr, Alvin Joseph Simmons. I too remember hearing the island of Pico mentioned by the family. I have a v. poor picture of Rosa da Simas.
Joseph F. Simoes (Simmons), Jr, married Elvira Page who parents were were Antone Paes (Page) and Antonia demao Medeiros. Antonia Medeiros and Antonio Paes were born in Ponte del Gardo (sp), villa de Franco. I believe that I have found an Ellis Island entry for her with her maiden name for 1899 at age 30. I have a v. poor picture of this couple also.
These immigrants and their children are all deceased now so I must look to records for family lineage. I have 5 married children and 9 grandchildren who need and want to find their Portuguese heritage.

His first name is Jose and his surname is Serodio which is not a very common name on the island itself.
