Comments: If anyone knows of a Manuel José Goulart from the Pico Island, all I know is that they were from the Bandeiras area. They also talked about going up into the pico, or vocano area. It's to bad that when we were little we never paid any attention on what they were talking about their lifes. All I can remember was about the white church that my grandmother would talk about.

Roza da Conceição is the daughter of Antonio Ferreira de Matos and Anna da Conceição (mar. abt1790), all natives of Candelária. João Pereira Gularte married Agueda Ignacia about 1760. Comments: I am looking for information pertaining to my Grandfather’s mother, Isabelle Concepcion (Constance) Nunes. She was born in San Mateus or Mateos, Pico, Azores. Her date of birth was 15 April 1856. Her father’s name was Francisco Nunes. Her mother’s name was Maria Paula or Puala. Isabelle was orphaned, and went to California to live with her Uncle Ambrose Nunes. She married Joseph Machado Avila in California, the Monterey area (San Juan Baptista), on 14 Feb 1881. There were thirteen children born of this union: Daniel, Anthony, Mary, Joseph, Manuel, Frank, George, John, Isabelle, William (passed away in infancy), Anna, Rose, and William. George was my grandfather (9 Dec 1890 – 10 Jul 1929). He married Ethel Pettit (12Jan 1892-20 Jan 1987). There were three children born of this marriage: Ethelrose Avila, Gerald Avila, and Annabelle Avila. My mother is Annabelle Avila Leiby, and she resides in Gold Hill, Oregon, at the age of 88. One final note, the children’s’ birth certificates may have their last name misspelled as Avilla.
