There was another brother named Joseph Borge who ran a creamery with John Borge but I have been unable to find his birth records. John Borge married Marie Fagundes (from Flores) in 1896. Cathy Peterson, PO Box 64, Butte, Mt 59703, USA
Email: jcjapeterson@hotmail.com
Date submitted: Sat, 31 Aug 2002
Surname:Silveira (Topo) and Luis/Luiz (Ribeira Seca)
Village: Topo
Comments: Antonio(Antone) Pedro Silveira, born abt-1858, died 9-2-193 Sausalito, Ca. He arrived abt 1876 or 1877(we conflicting reports as to when he arrived) New Bedford Ma. SS Vega. then on to Ca. Rosa Delfina(Deolinda) Luis or Luiz, born abt-1878, died 3-7-1930 Ca. She arrived in 1896 or 1897 she came through Ellis Island then on to Halfmoon Bay, Ca. When Antone came to the US he operated a Dairy Farm in Green Gulch(near Muir Beach) Ca. He later owned the Sausalito Coal Yard.In Sausalito Ca. But the catch is that some time after he came to the US and before he married Rosa he changed his last name to "Peters" We are having a tough time pin pointing "when" he changed his last name. Rosa met Antone at a fiesta and they later married abt 1897. They had their first child in 1898 in Sausalito, Ca. they had 11 children. I believe that they were all born in Sausalito, Ca. What I would like to find is Who their parents(Anton & Rosa's) and siblings are and when the name change came about. any idea's on where to look for that info?

Linda Victorino, 5104 Westmont Ave., #13, San Jose, CA 95130, USA
Email: Linditta_14@hotmail.com
Date submitted: Thu, 15 Jul 2004
Comments: my grandparents on both sides came from Sao Jorge, Acores - Manuel Victorino and Marianna (nee Brazil). My father was George Victorino. My father's mother was Marianna Victorina (we always thought she was a Costello). They came to California after she married Manoel Victorino and they had 6 children, Lillian, Mary, Erma, Frank, Manuel and George (born in Tracy CA and lived in San Jose and Union City. My mother (Dorothy Victorino) - her mother was Deolinda Brazil. She married John Almo and they had three children - Henry, Delmer, and Dorothy. The name Victorino or Victorina appears as either a first name or last name. It is a surname on both sides of the family as well. I've heard that they picked either the mother's or father's surname, so Marianna Victorina was a distant cousin of Manoel Victorino before they married. My mother and father were also distant cousins - both sides have common ancestors named Mendonca. There were many Isabellas or Isabelles on both sides. We have a geneology binder that traces both familes to the early 1800's and I can provide more names. I would be very interested in tracing the Mendonca family.
