Two pages from volume 5 of the nine-volume work "Genealogias da Ilha Terceira" by António Ornelas Mendes and Jorge Forjaz, that show some descendants of the Leal da Rosa family of Piedade, Pico, described as branch 7 of the LEAL chapter families from Terceira:

The authors didn't give credit to Lionel Rocha Holmes as the source of the information about the Leal da Rosa families as related to California, described in his book "Portuguese Pioneers of the Sacramento Area" (see details in the Family Histories section of this website: www.dholmes.com) nor to Doug da Rocha Holmes as the source of the marriage document from Chile mentioned in source number 109, that was sent by request to his late cousin Dr. José Leal Armas of Conceição, Angra.
One of the interesting parts to this story of the marriage in Chile and the three daughters moving to Angra, is that Manuel Joaquim Leal knew all along he was really a married man, knew his daughters were all born legitimately in Chile, but not in the locations stated. This might have been a clever way to prevent someone from finding out his trick. All this and so much more are in the family archives of genealogist Doug da Rocha Holmes, currently residing in Surprise, Arizona, owner of this website, www.dholmes.com
